The story behind OpenSpace
For over two decades - from Olympic venues to rail stations and museums - we've been curious about how people move through spaces and how those movements shape their experience.
With expertise in pedestrian simulation and systems engineering, it became clear time and again that better data about people - not just assets - could have improved both design and day-to-day operations. That realisation led to the creation of OpenSpace: connecting the technical world of engineering with the human world of experience.
The way people move through a space is the clearest indicator of whether it works. It's not about abstract footfall metrics. It's about actual flows, connections, and adaptability - and using data not only to optimise performance but to make places genuinely work for people.
From experience to platform
OpenSpace began as a small, focused team with a clear ambition: to build a digital layer of intelligence that puts people at the centre of design and operation.
We use data not to replace instinct, but to enhance it. By synchronising information, OpenSpace creates a real-time digital twin - an accurate picture of the 'now.' Applied well, this can smooth flows, inform better design, improve operations, and unlock new commercial value, all while keeping the human experience front and centre.
This approach has taken us into some of the most complex environments in the world - from mobility hubs and retail to cultural venues and major events. The common thread is always the same: people.
Looking ahead, no single company can solve this alone.
